Shameless plug: I created a t-shirt (that you can buy right now) that says “If everything is !important nothing will be”. This is actually relevant to this comic. The t-shirt is a take on the line from The Incredibles movie (still to this day, one of my favorite movies) but applied to the CSS “!important” flag. Obviously it was designed for CSS nerds like me, and it makes more sense if you’re familiar with CSS. The concept, though, is that if we throw terms around that are meant to emphasize something, but we do it all the time, it will dilute the meaning (if everyone is super, no one will be). This isn’t meant to get political but it seems to happen most often in a political context. It happens with words like “hate” or “toxic”. We overuse them to the point where they have no value anymore. Personally, I try to never use the word “hate”. It’s such a strong word that I reserve it for things that are really awful. You might think someone’s opinions are deserving of the word, but ascribing the word “hate” to everything you don’t like is, at best, unproductive. It creates situations where people hear it so much that it loses meaning to the point where actual things that are really bad get overlooked because there’s just so much noise. It’s the boy who cried wolf. Just something to think about from a humble cartoonist.

The Atlantean update…

Not a ton to talk about this week. Progress is being made but some other things have taken a bit more of my time. I did finally land on a space ship design I like so here you go:
